For 50 years, Midlands Women’s Aid has been a place of safety, support, and empowerment for women and children in Nottinghamshire escaping domestic abuse. Founded in Beeston in the 1970’s, the refuge has grown from it’s grassroots beginnings into a vital community service, providing not only safe accommodation but also advocacy, guidance, and hope for those rebuilding their lives.
In 2026, we are proud to celebrate our 50th Anniversary – a milestone that honours the courage of suvivors, the dedication of our staff and volunteers, and the generousity of supporters who have stood with us over the decades.
Why We’re Celebrating
This anniversary is more than a marker of time – it is an opportunity to:
- Celebrate our legacy: Five decades of protecting women, offering refuge, and fostering resilience.
- Thank our community: Recognising the volunteers, supporters, and partners who have helped us sustain and grow.
- Raise awareness: Highlighting the ongoing need for safe spaces and support services in Nottinghamshire.
- Look to the future: Sharing our vision for the next 50 years – inspiring new supports and continuing to empower women.
Our mission moving forward
